Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

2017

★★★★☆

This movie was so much funnier than I thought it would be, the only reason it gets four stars is because it kind of lost my attention at times. Also, there was so much potential for queerness that got completely ignored, which was disappointing but not surprising. Overall, a very entertaining movie and possibly the only successful reboot ever.

This is one of my favorite genres of movie: a movie with queer characters that's funny, but doesn't make queer people the butt of the joke. People call it dated, and, sure, it is, but I don't think that detracts from it all. It didn't lose my interest for a moment and was hilarious.

Spider-Man 2

2004

★★★★☆

This movie was so funny. It wasn't supposed to be funny, but it was. It gets 4 stars just for entertainment value. Doc Ock robs a bank, and there's actual bags of money in the bank vault. It doesn't get better than that. This one is also better than the first one, even though the number of screaming women went up drastically.

I came for Lee Pace as a beautiful trans woman and I was not disappointed. Jokes aside, this movie was absolutely heartbreaking. That's all there is to say, it broke my heart into a million little pieces.

The Fall Guy

2024

★★★★★

The trailers really did this movie dirty, it was nothing like what I expected and I thouroughly enjoyed it. It was funny, Ryan Gosling did great, the stunts were (fittingly) great, the movie kept my attention all the way through, and I actually thought the straight couple had chemistry, which is unusual for me. It's a great time and I hightly recommend it.

Eternals

2021

★★★☆☆

I actually loved the concept of this film, the combination of the immortals-living-among-humans trope with the finding-out-your-whole-life-was-a-lie trope was really neat, and I liked all the characters. The movie was just incredibly boring. Like, I wanted to care about what was happening, I really did. But I just didn't. I think it should have been a TV show, so we could have spent more time with all the characters, because nine characters is way too many to develop in one movie.

Deadpool & Wolverine

2024

★★★★☆

Matthew MacFadyen was the best in this. I love Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, so seeing him on screen again was great, and, I'll be honest, I mainly watched the movie because of Stray Kids. I haven't seen the other Deadpool movies, so I probably didn't fully appreciate the Deadpool aspect of the movie, but I did feel like there was some stuff that could have been cut out, like Nicepool and the whole Deadpool variants fight. But then again, I get the idea that unnessecary violence and messing around is Deadpool's whole brand. Idk, that part of the movie is where I felt it dragged. I think this is the one movie where gratuitious cameos are completely acceptable, though, so I did enjoy the cameos, especially Gambit. Oh, and Emma Corrin was fantastic as Cassandra.

Ultraman: Rising

2024

★★★★★

This was fantastic, we've really been on an animation high these past few years. As an aromantic I appreciated that there wasn't an explicit love interest for Kenji, and I really enjoyed the baseball aspect; it occured to me that I've never seen baseball animated before. The story didn't pull a single punch emotionally but still managed to be really fun and lighthearted. If they don't get a sequel I'm rioting.
